My conversation with technology ethicist Dr. Mona Hamdy

Artificial Intelligence gets bandied about by everyone in just about everything today, and I’ve been wanting to unpack the opportunities and challenges the future world holds for us. So today, I’m delighted to welcome technology ethicist Dr. Mona Hamdy to the show.

I met Mona thanks to one of the show’s first guests and our good friend, Dina El-Mofty. Mona is currently focused on bridging the gap between emerging technologies like AI and putting this to work for us, and not the other way around. She is the Managing Director at iConnections Middle East & Chief Ethics Advisor at Silicon Valley-based Saudi startup aiXplain.

Mona is an open, engaging and dynamic person and our conversation, like all great connections, went off along different tangents. On Part 1 of our conversation this week, we talk about her pivots, and how she found herself at this unique intersection of technology and human dignity.

If you’ve got something out of this episode, I’d love to hear from you. You can also leave us a comment on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or on Instagram.

Coming up next week on Part 2, I pick Mona’s brain on some of my questions on the future world of AI: have we unleashed something we don’t really understand? How does the emerging world prioritise its technology adoption?
